Michael Franklin, Atlantic General Hospital’s president and CEO, is being presented with the Distinguished Alumni Award by Old Dominion University (Norfolk, Va.) on October 10, 2008. The Distinguished Alumni Awards are given to ODU graduates in recognition of outstanding service to the community, state, nation or mankind, or for outstanding accomplishments in the graduate’s profession.
Franklin joined Atlantic General Hospital in October of 2005, quickly embracing the hospital’s mission to improve access to superior healthcare on the Shore. Among initiatives he has promoted to achieve this are the “30 Minute ER Promise,” an immensely successful program that continues to educate residents and visitors about the hospital’s commitment to timely emergency care, implementation of electronic medical records in physician offices throughout the AGH Health System, and serving on the board of directors as a founding member of Maryland eCare, a partnership initiative in Maryland to enhance the care delivery in intensive care units in Maryland hospitals.
Franklin has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience, having previously served as vice president of East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas, and as chief operating officer of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Md. prior to joining Atlantic General Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Franklin holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences from Old Dominion and a Master of Science in Health Administration from the Virginia Commonwealth University-Medical College of Virginia.
