Atlantic General Hospital Holds 2008 Fall Golf Classic

Rain date doesn’t deter golfers

More than 180 golfers came out to support Atlantic General Hospital during the 15th Annual Fall Golf Classic in early October. The event raised more than $65,000 for the hospital’s foundation, despite the need to re-schedule due to inclement weather.

This year’s winners of best ball were teams representing Owens & Minor, Peninsula Rehab and Sports Medicine and Wilmington Trust. Atlantic Physical Therapy’s team and teams sponsored by Silberstein Insurance and Hugh Cropper, IV won the scramble. Scott Lennox won first place in the 50/50 putting contest, and the opportunity to putt for a $1,000 grand prize.

The support of friends and patients was evidenced by Allen Faber, a patient of Dr. Eric Bontempo, who won closest to pin on two holes, one as a hole-in-one. And, Dick Lafaive, Dr. Tom Beck’s patient, won third place in the putting contest.

The success of the classic is in large part due to Carousel Resort Hotel and Condominiums, title sponsor once again this year, and the event’s other generous sponsors. Lankford Sysco was a gold sponsor. Wilmington Trust was a silver sponsor. Bronze sponsorships were provided by Kendall’s Furniture and Peninsula Imaging, LLC. A full course dinner was donated by Carrabba’s Italian Grill and Eunice Sorin sponsored lunch; Comcast Spotlight sponsored the Newport Bay Hospitality Cart and Pepsi Bottling Ventures sponsored the Seaside Hospitality Cart. Shenanigans Irish Pub & Grille sponsored the reception. Dough Roller was a cart/greens fees sponsor, and PNC Bank and John Tilghman were partial sponsors.
