MRI Technology

The Imaging Department at Atlantic General Hospital is pleased to offer the latest in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to the community we serve. Our 1.5 T SIGNATM Artist Evo MRI unit, by GE, is equipped with AIRTM Recon DL, a technology that uses artificial intelligence and deep learning to offer improved image quality and shortened scan times.

MRI allows us to diagnose problems that otherwise would have required an invasive procedure, such as evaluation of a patient's bile ducts. In addition, this scanner can perform magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) tests to look for blockages in the arteries supplying the brain, kidneys and legs.

In support of AGH’s Stroke Center of Excellence, new or recent strokes can be reliably detected by a process called diffusion imaging available on our MRI unit.

Some Other MRI Services:

Central Nervous System including the brain and structures of the spinal canal
Orthopedic structures – internal bone structures and joints including MR arthroscopy
MRI is the best method to image cartilage, muscle and ligaments
Abdominal and Pelvic Organs
Breast MRI

The SIGNATM Artist Evo MRI

Enhanced Experience: The SIGNA™ Artist Evo is a 70cm wide-bore MR system, which allows patients more room in the scanner. And AIR™ Coils wrap patients like a blanket during the scan to enhance image quality.

Exceptional Quality: We’ve invested in leading AI technology to ensure our MR system produces the highest quality scans and runs faster and more efficiently.

Better for Clinicians: This system has improved productivity, allowing our providers to keep focused on giving you the best possible exam experience.

A Sustainable Choice: The SIGNA™ Artist Evo consumes less helium, making it a better choice for the environment.

In keeping with our mission to provide high quality imaging services, our MRI unit is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR accreditation means we have met the rigorous testing standards of a nationally recognized review board, demonstrating our commitment to quality patient care.

A board-certified radiologist is on-site at AGH during scanning hours to tailor the exam. In addition, an image networking system allows us to send images to our radiologists after hours for emergency cases. Our highly trained MRI technologists have all passed an additional registry examination for x-ray, and some hold certification for CAT scan as well.

Scheduling an Appointment

To schedule an appointment, please have your doctor call the Central Scheduling Department at Atlantic General Hospital at (410) 641-9714. If your doctor or provider cannot make the call, please be sure to have your prescription available. The associate scheduling your MRI will ask you questions about what is written on the order form.

Report

A radiologist will read your MRI and send the results to your health care provider. Your provider will go over your MRI results with you and discuss next steps.
