Atlantic General Hospital Selects Program Director for New Wound Care Center

Atlantic General Hospital is pleased to announce that Geri Rosol has joined their new Wound Care Center® as program director. This state-of-the-art outpatient center, located within the James G. Barrett Medical Office Building on the hospital’s campus in Berlin, offers advanced technologies and proven clinical protocols in the treatment of chronic, non-healing wounds.

Rosol brings a wealth of healthcare administration experience to her new role, having served as a laboratory director at several institutions as well as an adjunct professor at the State University of New York, at Syracuse.

“I am thrilled to be part of the new Wound Care program,” said Rosol. “Together, Atlantic General Hospital and Wound Care Centers, Inc. are working to fulfill a much needed medical service in the community.”

As program director of the Wound Care Center at Atlantic General Hospital, Rosol will work with Wound Care Centers, Inc, the nation’s pioneer and a leader in wound management with more than 270 centers nationwide, to provide innovative techniques that focus on treating the wound’s symptoms as well as healing it entirely by taking a disease management approach that eliminates the cause.

A chronic wound is described as a wound that has not responded to conventional treatment in four weeks or has not healed in eight weeks. Nationally, more than 6 million people suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds. These are a serious disorder that can lead to amputation of limbs and dramatically impaired quality of life. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and in people with diabetes.

According to Michael Franklin, FACHE, president and CEO of Atlantic General Hospital, “these at risk populations are sharply rising as the nation ages and chronic diseases increase. In Worcester County and surrounding areas, the prevalence of diabetes is nearly double the national average. Our Wound Care Center is being established to directly address these growing needs of our community, in our community.”
