Atlantic General Hospital Anesthesiologist Returns from Far East Tour with International Physician Executive Delegation

People to People International Program takes Dr. Jerome Aul to China and Mongolia
Atlantic General Hospital anesthesiologist Jerome Aul, MD, recently returned from a trip to China and Mongolia as part of the Physician Executives Delegation. Aul was invited to participate in the 11-day international exchange by the American College of Medical Quality and People to People’s Citizen Ambassador Program, which was founded by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1956.

Aul had the opportunity to present to physician executives in both countries on the structure of hospital medical staffs and role of physician leaders in the United States. He met with physicians at Beijing No. 6 Hospital, the first hospital to bring Western medicine to China, and visited several cultural and historical sites including Tiananmen Square, the Great Wall and the Forbidden City in China as well as Buddhist monasteries and temples in Mongolia.

“This was a very rewarding experience,” said Aul. “In China, I saw many of the modern conveniences that we enjoy in the United States, but there still is the mix of the old world traditional Chinese culture. In Mongolia, we saw a people emerging from a strict communist system to one of more free markets. I was struck more by the similarities between our cultures than the differences.”

Aul joined the medical staff at Atlantic General Hospital in 2005 after practicing four years with Atlantic Anesthesia in Virginia Beach, Va. He graduated from University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed residencies at University of Pittsburgh and University of Virginia. Aul is board certified in anesthesiology.
