Two Atlantic General Employees Receive Certified Diabetes Educator Status

The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) announced
that Darlene Jameson, MPH, RD, LDN, and Linda Keplinger, RN, ABOC, achieved
Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE®) status by successfully completing
the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators. Candidates must
meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be able to take the examination.
Achieving certification status demonstrates to people with diabetes that
the health care professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge,
thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes. Currently,
there are almost 16,000 diabetes educators who hold NCBDE certification.
Jameson, who has worked at Atlantic General Hospital since 1996, is the former director of nutrition services, a role that included part time nutrition counseling in the Diabetes Outpatient Education Program for the last three years. This past October she joined the program full time as a diabetes educator.
Keplinger has been with the hospital for three years. She provides inpatient clinical care on the medical surgical and progressive care units at Atlantic General.
NCBDE was established in 1986 to develop and administer a certification program for health care professionals who teach individuals with diabetes how to manage their disease. Through the development, maintenance, and protection of the certification process and the CDE credential, NCBDE recognizes and advances the specialty practice of diabetes education. NCBDE supports the concept of voluntary, periodic certification for all diabetes educators who meet credential and experience eligibility requirements.
