Hospital's 11th Annual Health Conference Brings Tony Award-Winning Performer to Berlin Stage

“The Changing Face of Healthcare” to be held at Stephen Decatur

Regardless of philosophical, personal or political leanings, no one can deny the powerful debate that has taken hold of America regarding the state of the healthcare system in this country.
Atlantic General Hospital’s Visions for Total Health Program, which strives to empower individuals and help communities improve their overall health through education and disease prevention, selected the keynote speaker for this year’s annual health conference to bring to light the human side of the healthcare debate.
Sarah Jones, an award winning playwright and performer, will be bringing her one-woman show, titled “A Right to Care,” to Stephen Decatur High School’s auditorium. She tours the country with her cast of characters, giving a voice (or voices) to the social, ethnic and economic inequities that influence an individual’s access to healthcare.
Jones has performed on Broadway and at the White House, has worked with Meryl Streep, who produced her Broadway show, titled “Bridge and Tunnel,” and acting with Glenn Close in a performance they created called “Under my Hat.”
“We’re really excited that Ms. Jones’ schedule allowed her to come to Berlin as part of our conference,” said Dawn Denton, the community education manager at Atlantic General Hospital and chair of the Visions for Total Health Committee. “We have a wonderful event planned this year, with educational speakers, free screenings including blood draws, demonstrations and mini therapy sessions.”
Scheduled for Saturday, November 14, the Changing Face of Healthcare Conference will begin at 8 a.m. at Stephen Decatur High School and end at 1 p.m. Sarah Jones’ keynote performance will occur at 10:30 a.m.
The halls of the high school will be lively, with more than 60 vendor displays and six different health talks. Demonstrations of chair yoga, healthy cooking and ballroom dancing will also be available. And attendees can take a break to receive free massage, reflexology and Reiki therapy treatments as they stroll through the vendors’ services.
The day promises to be full and exciting. The conference is generously supported by its title sponsor, the Humphreys Foundation, AGH Medical Staff, Quest Diagnostics Nichols Institute, JAG, ABC Printers, Parties Your Way, Shore Woman magazine, the Worcester County Health Department, Chesapeake Hearing Center, and Apple Discount Drugs.
