As part of National Nurses Week, celebrated May 6 through 12 each year,
Atlantic General Hospital is bringing former healthcare professional and
current motivational speaker Lon Kieffer to associates to talk about “Defending
the Caregiver!”
“Defending the Caregiver!” is a one-man, comedic, dramatic program that has achieved national ANCC approval for continuing education hours by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Lon is an internationally known speaker and educator and has developed “Defending the Caregiver!” for the express purpose of training nurses and other caregivers while entertaining them.
Three sessions that address the constant stress of being a caregiver – regardless of whether an individual is in the clinical or the support staff environment – will be held during the week.
“Humor will be a large part of each session, but each participant will leave with real life tips for how to care for themselves in addition to managing the stress of caring for others,” said Colleen Wareing, vice president of patient care services at Atlantic General. “We are very excited to have a nationally recognized entertainer to inspire our associates during National Nurses Week.”
About Lon Kieffer
Lon Kieffer, RN, MBA, NHA, is a past recipient of the Delaware Healthcare Association’s Administrator of the Year Award. He believes strongly in the use of humor in the workplace and as a communications and training tool. As a registered nurse and former professional stand-up comedian, he has both the experience and the ability to speak about what he calls the caregivers’ dilemma in a humorous and “enter-training” style.
