National Nurses Week celebrated May 6-12, 2012
On May 6, 2012, Atlantic General Hospital is joining the American Nurses Association in celebrating Nurses: Advocating, Leading, Caring, as part of National Nurses Week, which is held May 6-12, every year. The purpose of the week-long celebration is to raise awareness of the value of nursing and help educate the public about the role nurses play in meeting the health care needs of the American people.
In honor of the dedication, commitment, and tireless effort of the nearly 3.1 million registered nurses nationwide to promote and maintain the health of this nation, the ANA and AGH are proud to recognize registered nurses everywhere on this particular day for the quality work they provide seven days a week, 365 days a year.
On May 6, 2012, Atlantic General Hospital is recognizing the efforts of more than 200 outstanding nurses as well as CNAs, medical assistants, unit secretaries and other caregivers. AGH nurses recognize the value of not only the profession of nursing but also the support associates that allow nurses to practice their profession to the highest degree of excellence. Activities include Sundaes on Sunday, Breakfast on Tuesday and a reception on Wednesday evening to announce the Nurse and the Nurse Support Person of the year, along with several other nominees. And, to give back, the nursing staff is collecting gently used scrubs to donate to other healthcare entities in need. The hospital is planning an upcoming beach party with the nurses to celebrate and acknowledge their hard work throughout the year.
"AGH nurses strive for excellence in all they do. They lead the team in providing AGH patients and their families with skilled, compassionate care. Nurses assist and guide patients and families in the navigation of a very complex healthcare system. Every second of every day, a nurse somewhere makes an impact by either changing a life or saving a life,” said Colleen Wareing, vice president of patient care services. “Here at AGH, the work of our nurses makes a positive difference to countless patients, families, and our community. As a registered nurse and a leader at Atlantic General Hospital, I encourage all nurses on the Shore to celebrate their advocacy, leadership and caring. And, on behalf of healthcare leadership and the community, thank you!”
