(Berlin, Md.) – Atlantic General Hospital is pleased to bring a special program about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to the Berlin area. U.S. Army veteran Capt. Luis Montalván will be coming to Stephen Decatur High School with his service dog, Tuesday, to share the story of his struggle with PTSD.
Montalván and Tuesday are public advocates for PTSD awareness and treatment for active service members and veterans as well as Americans with disabilities and their families. They have been featured on NPR, CNN, CSPAN, National Geographic and The Late Show with David Letterman.
Montalván’s book, “Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him,” hit the New York Times Bestseller List three years in a row. In 2014, Montalván published a children’s book, “Tuesday Tucks Me In, The Loyal Bond between a Soldier and his Service Dog.”
“Until Tuesday” is the story of two wounded warriors and how they bonded and saved one another: Montalván, an Army veteran battling physical wounds as well as PTSD, and Tuesday, a service dog that was trained to help others with day-to-day tasks, yet couldn’t trust in or connect with humans.
According to Until-Tuesday.com, “It is a story about war and peace, injury and recovery, psychological wounds and spiritual restoration. But more than that, it is a story about the love between a man and a dog, and how together they healed each other’s souls.”
