Linda Corrigan, MHE, RHIT, CTR, Installed as President of the National Cancer Registrars Association

Alexandria, VA — Linda Corrigan, MHE, RHIT, CTR, was installed as the president of the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) at its Annual Educational Conference in Las Vegas, NV, on April 13, 2016. NCRA is a non-profit organization that represents more than 5,800 cancer registry professionals. Cancer registrars are data information specialists that capture a complete history, diagnosis, treatment, and health status for every cancer patient in the U.S. The data provide essential information to researchers, healthcare providers, and public health officials to better monitor and advance cancer treatments, conduct research, and improve cancer prevention and screening programs. In her role as president, Corrigan will represent the organization at regional and national meetings and support its mission to promote education, credentialing, and advocacy for cancer registry professionals.

Corrigan has a well-established career in cancer registry management and earned her Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential in 1996. She is currently the Cancer Registry Program Coordinator and Lung Screening Coordinator at Regional Cancer Care Center in Berlin, MD. From 2008 to 2014, Corrigan was the Program Manager of the Cancer Registry at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, MD. She also served as the Oncology Information Coordinator at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, MD, and the Coordinator, Oncology Data Management Services, at Precyse Solutions in King of Prussia, PA.

Corrigan has been an active member of NCRA for over 15 years, serving on its Board of Directors in a variety positions since 2010. She was the Recruitment and Retention Director and the Advocacy & Technical Practice Director for the eastern region. Corrigan led the development of the educational program for the 2012 Annual Conference, serving as chair of the Program Committee. She has also been an engaged member of the Tumor Registrars Association of Maryland, serving in three leadership positions: Co-Chair of the Education Committee, Treasurer, and President. Corrigan earned a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation/Psychology and a Master’s degree in Higher Education with an emphasis in counseling from Morehead State University, Morehead, KY. She also earned an Associate’s degree in Health Information Management.

Corrigan will focus her year as president on promoting issues of importance to her and the cancer registry profession. She will concentrate her efforts on helping cancer registrars become more proactive regarding cancer data collection changes and to be more involved in national decisions related to cancer data. She is also interested in NCRA working with partners to expand the position of the CTR credential in those states without a CTR requirement and to encourage students to enter the cancer surveillance profession.
