OVER 250 COMMUNITY MEMBERS ATTEND THE GRAND OPENING OF AGH'S JOHN H. 'JACK' BURBAGE JR. REGIONAL CANCER CARE CENTER

Berlin, Md. – Atlantic General Hospital recently held a ribbon cutting and grand opening for the John H. ‘Jack’ Burbage, Jr. Regional Cancer Care Center, more than 250 community members and supporters of Atlantic General Hospital gathered for remarks from hospital leadership and Jack Burbage himself. Burbage addressed the community about the importance of opening the cancer center, stating, “If we only save one life – it’s worth it.”

Those who attended the grand opening received guided tours and had the opportunity to meet the staff of the Burbage Regional Cancer Care Center, including medical oncologists Roopa Gupta, MD, and Rabindra Paul, MD, and radiation oncologist Manoj Jain, MD.

The Burbage Regional Cancer Care Center was developed based upon the unique needs of the community as well as decades worth of cancer research, and support by the Campaign fo the Future. Cancer treatment has changed and improved dramatically in recent decades, so that most cancer care in the country is now delivered in community hospital settings.

“Creating a cancer care facility where all of the care can be received on one campus, in a comfortable, convenient and accessible location, means that the best cancer care out there is now available right here,” stated Michael Franklin, the president and CEO of AGH.

Under one roof, the Burbage Regional Cancer Care Center offers the latest in radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, genetic counseling, nutrition counseling, financial support services, and massage therapy and other supportive care services for cancer patients.

About the Campaign for the Future

Burbage is co-chair on the Atlantic General Campaign for the Future, alongside Michelle Fager, another long-time AGH supporter. This campaign will allow Atlantic General Hospital to complete $35 million in capital projects. Among them was the construction and completion of the new 18,000-square-foot full service John H. ‘Jack’ Burbage Jr. Regional Cancer Care Center. Other projects include the completion of the women’s health center in West Ocean City, renovation of existing surgical facilities and expansion of emergency services within Atlantic General Hospital as well as improvements to inpatient care areas. To date, the Foundation has already secured more than $6,000,000 of the $10 million goal in pledges, commitments and grants.
